My New MacBook Pro
Oh, goodness. So, a couple of days ago, we went to visit some friends in the hospital to help them welcome their new (and first!) little bundle of joy into the world (YAY!). When we got home, my hard drive suddenly began sounding like it was jackhammering its way out of its housing (BOOO, HISSS). I powered it down and The Man, Mr. “No, I will not fix your computer” took over (that’s a quote from a tee shirt he has). My hero, Mr. Computer Forensics. My love, my concerned husband. He disassembled my poor little (big, 17″) Mac Powerbook G4 and hooked up the hard drive to some of his gadgets. I kid you not, The Man just about cried when he told me the news. My G4 may as well have been taken out to the gun range and thrown out as skeet. Come to think of it, I have a new laser sight on my LCP that I have yet to try out… Anyway, I’m used to computers going south, so to speak. I once lost over $3000 in business startup information and formulas to a hard drive crash. That must have been the third? hard drive that I’d killed at that point, I think? I’ve gone through Compacs, HPs, Dells, Gateways…and now a Mac. I’m hard on computers and despite that, I still fail to make regular backups. I mean to, but I just keep putting it off (and putting it off, and putting it off…). I’m so used to losing stuff that I just cannot get upset over it anymore. Given my state of level-headedness, I was a bit shocked to see The Man getting all misty over the loss of my computer. I tried to console him, but to no avail. I was consoling HIM over the loss of MY computer! I love that man if for no other reason than how much he loves me. Sometimes, I do believe that he loves me more than he loves himself. We went to bed, I fell fast asleep, losing NONE at all over the loss of the computer (my household management Excel book is the only loss that I’m mildly upset about). Meanwhile, The Man apparently wasn’t sleeping well. He woke up bright and early (I was vaguely aware in my misty dreams) and when he couldn’t contain himself any longer, he asked me if I’d like to take an 8 hour roadtrip to San Antonio to get a new computer. Uh…HELL YEAH! I’d been jonesin’ for a road trip for the longest time!!! Oh, yeah, and a new computer - rock on! So, four hours later, we arrive in San Antonio and I have the difficult task of deciding between the 13″ MacBook Pro and the 15″. Feeling guilty for wanting the larger screen, I pick the smaller, knowing that I’d be perfectly happy with it (knowing this, because I bought one for The Man late last year). Well, as it turns out, they were out of stock in the 13″ so I took that as a sign and went for the larger. And a few more than four more hours later, we arrived home. The boys, to go to bed; me to play with my new ‘puter, and The Man, to play with his new Air Port gadget that allows us to stream our iTunes library/playlists wirelessly to our house stereo system (love).
Seriously, this was a fun trip for everybody.

Playing their Leapster's and having a ball.

Fast forward a day and then The Man had to leave. :( So sad. This is only the second time since we’ve been married that we’ve been apart. The first time was only for a couple of nights - this one for about 9 days! It could be worse, yes, it certainly could. So, what am I doing tonight? Well, after a bad mommy night without my saving grace (The Man), I’m bingeing on cherries (better than that pizza sitting in the kitchen!), watching my daily dose of humility (Extreme Home Makeover), and trying to recover all of my million RSS feeds. My poor little RSS reader looks so nekkid with only my favorites that I pulled from memory (in my head, not any electronics) back in there.
Anyway, that’s about it. I’m heading off to bed. With my trusty new laptop (and extended Apple Care Protection Plan!) and laser sight sportin’ LCP. I’m beat and it’s far later than I thought it was. I was going to hit the hay when I put the boys down! What happened to that?!
